Following the example of Jesus who welcomes everyone to the Table, we too are called to offer hospitality and welcome to everyone in the name of the Lord. One can see the importance of having children, youth, and adults experience serving and being Christ to others through the service of hospitality and greeting other parish family members. We are a faith that values community!
This year we are having each Faith Formation family schedule two (2) Masses where the family will be greeters in the main vestibule.
A greeter’s role at the parish liturgy is to greet people as they come into the church and welcome them into the celebration about to take place. The primary role of the Greeters Ministry is to help people feel welcome as they gather for Mass.
There are a few basic responsibilities of greeters:
1) Arrive at the church about 15-20 minutes before Mass starts.
2) Be available before Mass to open doors, welcome and assist both regular members and visitors with a smile. Say "welcome" or "hello" often - with a smile!
3) Be attentive, especially to elderly, offer assistance with wheelchairs or walkers.
4) Provide directions to the restrooms, ushers, etc. as needed.
5) During the announcements, move to the vestibule and gather bulletins. Be present at the end of Mass to distribute the weekly bulletin, open doors and assist people as they leave, wishing them a good week.
Traffic flow: Please take care not to block access through the doors.
Remember to participate as fully as possible in each part of the Mass yourself!
At the Last Supper Jesus provided the example of hospitality as service when he washed the feet of the Apostles. When you offer your service as a greeter, you are responding to Christ's example. View your ministry as an act of prayer, an attempt to witness to the living Christ. In so doing you will begin to see the face of Christ in the faces of those whom you serve.
