Very few facts are known about him. He was a physician who later became the bishop of Sebastea in Armenia. Saint Blaise's protection of those with throat troubles apparently comes from a story that a boy was brought to him who had a fishbone stuck in his throat. The boy was about to die when Saint Blaise healed him. He is one of the martyrs of the early Church: he was beheaded in AD 316 for refusing to renounce his Catholic faith.
The blessing of throats will take place after all the Feb 2/3 weekend Masses.
