Pentecost Sunday – May 28, 2023 John 14: 27 Pacem relinquo vobis, pacem meam do vobis, non quomodo mundus dat, ego do vobis. Non turbetur cor vestrum, neque formidet. Peace I leave with you. My peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, do I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled or afraid.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Pentecost marks the fiftieth day of the Lord’s Resurrection when He sent among us the Holy Spirit to carry on His work. The apostles were afraid until they received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, then they went out to preach, teach, shepherd, and sanctify by the power of Christ crucified and risen. This power remains with us in our day and will continue to He returns at His second coming.
Pentecost reminds us to fully give witness to the Faith. We are called upon to convert to the Lord and do all we can to hand on the Faith. We should not be discouraged by the troubles we find today in the Church and in the world. Our Lord promised to remain with us also.
Recently, those who hold fast to the Faith of Our Fathers received unexpected encouragement from two-time Super Bowl winning kicker Harrison Butker in his commencement address at Georgia Institute of Technology. I spoke about him on May 14. I recommend that you read the entire article about him on LifeSiteNews for May 10, 2023. He starts off with: “I can offer one controversial antidote that I believe will have a lasting impact for generations to come: get married and start a family.”
The article states the Butker is the father of two children and regularly serves at Mass. He said that his marriage ring is far more significant than his two Super Bowl rings. He gives full credit to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. So should we.
Yes, we must stand up and be counted as soldiers in Christ’s army.
Yours in the Lord Jesus Christ, Fr. Mark G. Mazza, Pastor
