The 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time – October 8-9, 2022 My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Today, Saturday, October 8, is a joyful and prayerful day as we come together with Archbishop Cordileone to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Parish in the afternoon concluding with Mass and dinner. All the places for dinner are reserved as many come together to celebrate the many blessings our good and loving God has bestowed on us. We thank God and all those who have made this community of faith possible. October is the Month of the Most Holy Rosary. Let us begin anew or more fervently pray the family rosary. It was through Mary’s powerful intercession that Don Juan of Austria defeated the invasion of the Turks at the famous battle at Lepanto in 1571, 451 years ago this year. It would be good to read and study the ballad by G. K. Chesterton on the subject. At Fatima on October 13, 1917, our Blessed Mother begged the children to spread devotion to her as Queen of the Most Holy Rosary. Some believe that the Miracle of the Sun referred to a possible destruction of the world from an onslaught of nuclear weapons. Nevertheless, we call out in prayer: “Dear Lady of Fatima, we come on bended knee, we beg thy intercession for peace and unity.” What is the real threat to our society in the times we live? It is the attempt to undermine Christian Family life. The fond memories of the past come from living out the faith in holy families. If the faith is to be restored, it must be done through good and holy Catholic families. The seed must be planted in the good soil of loving families. They go together, for sure. We must all do our part. Please join me and your neighbor in building up the Kingdom of God in our midst. A special thanks to all those who made our Diamond Jubilee special. Yours in the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Fr. Mark G. Mazza, Pastor
